Manifesto

The Black Liberationist Party of Montreal is a political organization grounded in Black Marxist principles. We believe that Black liberation cannot be achieved under capitalism due to its inherent exploitative relationship with African, Caribbean, and Black folk—the Black diaspora.

Since its inception, capitalism has treated the Black diaspora as a commodity: a resource for free and/or cheap labour. From chattel slavery, to forced prison labour and sharecropping during Jim Crow, to the continued exploitation of the prison industrial complex, to coercive practices in immigrant labour, and beyond. There has been, and continues to be, a reliance on Black bodies as commodities and engines for free and/or cheap labour.

Racism is a consistent and effective tool used to justify the harms of capitalism. Through redlining, “urban development,” gentrification, the “War on Drugs,” the prison industrial complex, the militarization of police, the privatization of healthcare, education, and housing, and environmental racism (e.g., Cancer Alley) Black folk living in the imperial core have been forced to pay the costs of capitalism.

In the Global South, African countries have time and time again faced Western intervention when attempting to take control of and nationalize their natural resources, resources essential to capitalist production. The Congo, a country rich in cobalt, should be among the wealthiest nations given the global reliance on its resources. Instead, capitalists have crippled the Congolese people and rely on child slavery to keep capitalist economies afloat.

Time and time again, capitalism has demanded a bill of pain. The Black diaspora has been forced to pay it.

The Black Liberationist Party of Montreal demands that all workers of the world own the means of production.

We believe that we can and will only be free once we abolish capitalism. But abolishing capitalism does not guarantee our freedom. Racism can and will persist under any other economic system if the appropriate care and concerns are not addressed. We stand in solidarity with all workers, only if they can stand in solidarity with us.

Our initiatives

Our first initiatives are a mutual aid fund for working-class individuals and families in Montreal, a free dinner program for youth and families in Little Burgundy, and a Black Marxist reading group. The 2 latter programs are accessible to all people. In regards to the mutual aid fund, seventy percent (70%) of funds raised will be reserved for Black working-class individuals and families. The remaining thirty percent (30%) will be available for non-Black working-class individuals and families. While our efforts will be primarily focused on the Black working-class populace of Montreal, our services will remain accessible to the general public.

We are here to help. You no longer need to suffer in silence or alone.

Capitalism doesn’t love you. We do.
